Postgraduate Director Outlines East Java’s Halal Industry Opportunities

Prof. Dr. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., PhD, Director of Unisma’s Postgraduate Program, appeared as a guest speaker on TV9 Nusantara’s Weekend Journal program, discussing East Java’s halal industry opportunities on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Mas’ud Said, who also chairs a division of East Java’s Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), noted that the outlook for East Java’s halal product industry remains highly promising. East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has spearheaded the Halal Industrial Park in Sidoarjo, an initiative that gives small and medium enterprises (UMKM) access to office space within a fully integrated, industry-friendly zone.

While Indonesia’s economy contracted sharply during the pandemic in 2020, one bright spot stood out: the halal industry grew by 19.2 percent over the same period.

Fellow guest speaker Ali Mukafa, CEO of Bank Syariah Indonesia’s regional division, further reinforced the strength of East Java’s halal and sharia-based business sector.
