Unisma graduate program  is a unit of professional education, research and community service that is directed towards applied science. The graduate program at Unisma was established in 1996, starting with the Masters in Islamic Study program which was, then followed by Masters in Law, Masters in Indonesian Language Education, Masters in English education and Masters in Management and now there are 9 Masters study programs and 1 doctoral study program.

Program Distinctions

Supported by lecturers and educational staff who are professional and have a national reputation, the direction of academic orientation, research and community service graduate programs of Unisma is aimed at applied science. The educational direction of the graduate program is not only concerned with the quality of processes and infrastructure but also the quality of output and impact.

Each study program has certain specifications which are both unique and superior, for example, the doctoral program multicultural Islamic education is expected to be a benchmark for solving problems of socio-religious disharmony in Indonesia. Likewise, the graduates of Masters in notary has the ability to direct graduates to become experts in the field of land law, land administration and professional skills as a notary who can regulate land management and government assets.

The graduate programs of Unisma is also supported by a superior program structure consisting of subject groups including basic expertise, basic general knowledge, compulsory courses, elective /matriculation courses, thesis and supporting courses. Educational courses  consist of theory, seminars and case studies through face-to-face for 3 semesters for Masters study programs and 5 semesters for Doctoral study programs , followed by writing a thesis for one to two semesters and writing a dissertation in addition to field research. At the work stage, specializations can be selected according to the background of interests and projections of each student competence by receiving special guidance facilities from lecturers who are competent in their specialization.

Academic Facilities 

The academic facilities include a four-star hotel-like seminar ballroom on the 7th floor of the graduate building, academic counseling room, professor’s room, language laboratory, micro teaching, computer laboratory/IT Center, library, Internet center, entrepreneurship center and multi-function room for graduate students, and seminar room. Each class or room is equipped with LCD monitor  installed in a 7-floor building complex that is integrated with a university-level academic service center.

Inter-Agency Cooperation

At the current stage, one of the advantages of Unisma’s graduate studies is the extensive overseas cooperation as evidenced by the Global Summit of University Leaders conducted in various countries, including the 2019 Global Summit of University Leaders hosted by Unisma. Cooperation between Unisma and various ministries have been established; among others, with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, and State Institutions. Unisma Malang has collaborated with leading universities in various continents including Asia, Europe and America. Some of the graduate lecturers are also graduates of leading Australian universities.

Unisma is also the host of the East Java Province scholarship program in Masters program  for religion n teachers and a training and human resource development center for the regional government and the provincial government of East Java.

Study Period and Lecture Time

For Masters program students, the number of Credit offered is 36 to  45 credits. Face-to-face lectures are held for 4 effective quarters equivalent to 4 semesters including the last quarter for thesis preparation. Lectures are carried out effectively on working days according to the schedule and time allocation set by the semester credit system standard. Systematics and lecture procedures are set out in the Unisma graduate Academic Manual.

For doctoral program students, course credits are offered according to the procedures and regulations set by the Directorate of Islamic Higher Education and the Ministry of Research and Technology of Higher Education with an estimated time of 6-8 semesters, including domestic and foreign field studies, research and dissertation writing.
