Universitas Islam Malang has once again gained international academic recognition as one of its senior scholars, Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, PhD, was appointed an international reviewer for a full professorship evaluation at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Following an academic engagement and collaboration with Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sunawari Long, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at UKM, the university formally invited Prof. Mas’ud Said to assess the academic credentials of Dr. Mohd Izhar Ariff Bin Mohd Kashim. The candidate has been nominated for promotion to full professor in Sharia and Halal Food studies an increasingly strategic research field in both Malaysia and Indonesia.
Prof. Ahmad Sunawari Long stated, “It is with great respect that I extend to you an invitation to serve as an international reviewer for the appointment of a candidate to the rank of full Professor within my faculty.”
The dean further noted that Prof. Mas’ud’s scholarly expertise and academic contributions would provide critical insight in evaluating the candidate’s academic record, research achievements, and overall suitability for the professorial rank.

Prof. Mas’ud Said described Dr. Izhar Ariff’s academic portfolio as exceptionally strong. “The candidate demonstrates a remarkable scholarly record, including authoritative publications, international journal articles, and extensive research on Sharia and halal food. His academic standing reflects UKM’s position among leading global universities,” he said during discussions with colleagues at UNISMA.
In addition to this appointment, Prof. Mas’ud who serves as Director of UNISMA’s Postgraduate Program has previously been recognized as an international reviewer for the International Journal of Islamic Thought (IJIT), a Scopus Q2-indexed journal, further consolidating his reputation in global academic circles.

A graduate of Flinders University, Prof. Mas’ud is regarded as an influential academic figure in Southeast Asia. Alongside his role as Chairman of the East Java chapter of the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU), he continues to promote academic quality enhancement at UNISMA, encouraging institutional strengthening and international competitiveness in pursuit of world-class university status.
