UNISMA Master’s Program in Indonesian Language Education Undergoes Successful Accreditation Field Assessment

Direktur Pascasarjana menyerahkan berita acara asesmen lapangan sebagai tanda berakhirnya proses akreditasi

The field assessment of Master in Indonesian Language Education (MPBI) at UNISMA), conducted by the Independent Accreditation Agency for Education (LAMDIK), concluded successfully after a two-day evaluation from Wednesday (August 14) to Thursday (August 15). UNISMA is aiming to secure a “Superior” accreditation status.

In his opening remarks on Wednesday (August 14) at the East Java Study Center Room, the Director of Postgraduate Studies stated that the university’s institutional “Superior” accreditation serves as strong motivation for the program to achieve the same distinction.

“UNISMA has already achieved ‘Superior’ institutional accreditation, and the Master’s Program in Indonesian Language Education previously received an ‘A’ accreditation. We are optimistic about obtaining ‘Superior’ accreditation,” said Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, Ph.D.

The field assessment was conducted by assessors Prof. Dr. Rustono, M.Hum from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) and Prof. Dr. Sumiyadi, M.Hum from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Both assessors verified the data presented in the Self-Evaluation Report (LED) and the Study Program Performance Report (LKPS).

First Day of the Assessment

On the first day, the assessors conducted the evaluation at the East Java Study Center in the Ali bin Abi Tholib Building, reviewing and verifying the completeness of the program’s documentation. Earlier, they were formally welcomed by the university leadership before touring the campus facilities that support academic activities.

Several question-and-answer sessions were held to confirm the accuracy of the submitted documents. The first session involved general discussions with the Postgraduate leadership, as the Study Program Managing Unit (UPPS), focusing on the clarity of the program’s vision and mission as well as governance structures.

The second session was held with the Quality Assurance Unit to ensure that the processes of Determination, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement (PPEPP) were carried out through the Internal Quality Assurance System.

The third session involved lecturers and administrative staff, confirming matters related to curriculum implementation, teaching and learning processes, academic and general services, and library services.

Simultaneously with the third session, the assessors also conducted verification with students, alumni, and graduate users.

The final session explored additional information contained in the Self-Evaluation Report that had not been confirmed in earlier discussions.

Overall, the first day of the assessment proceeded smoothly, resulting in only a small number of recommendations for improvement.

MPBI Microteaching Evaluation on the Second Day

On the second day, the assessors evaluated the teaching and learning process through a microteaching session. The session was conducted by Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd and assessed by Prof. Dr. Sumiyadi, M.Hum as the second assessor. Microteaching evaluation is a distinctive feature of LAMDIK’s assessment system, setting it apart from other accreditation bodies.

Prof. Dr. Rustono, M.Hum expressed his appreciation for the hospitality shown during the visit to Universitas Islam Malang. “God willing, this will continue the achievement from the previous ‘A’ accreditation,” he said.

Prof. Rustono also offered several recommendations to further enhance the program’s quality. First, strengthening efforts to improve students’ academic achievement and study completion rates. Second, further developing the curriculum to better align with the academic discipline of Indonesian Language Education. Third, reinforcing graduate competencies, particularly the program’s primary graduate profile as Indonesian language educators. Fourth, strengthening collaborative outcomes in research and community service by pursuing international funding opportunities. Finally, accelerating the promotion of academic staff to higher functional positions.

Prof. Sumiyadi emphasized the importance of continuous small improvements, quoting James Clear in Atomic Habits: “All big things come from small beginnings; the seed of every habit is a single small decision.”

At the conclusion of the visit, the assessment report was submitted to LAMDIK headquarters for further evaluation and the issuance of the official accreditation decree and certificate.
