Malang, March 29, 2021 – Unisma’s Multicultural Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Doctoral Program held a coordination meeting aimed at strengthening educational quality, bringing together leadership to exchange ideas on improving teaching, research, and community service.
The meeting, held in the Wahid Hasyim conference room, Ali bin Abi Tholib Building, 3rd floor, began at 9:30 AM. Attendees included the university’s leadership: the Rector, Deputy Rector I, the Postgraduate Director, Deputy Director I Dr. H. Nur Fajar Arief, M.Pd, Dr. Hanief, M.Pd, and Dr. H. Dahlan Thamrin, M.Ag.

The Postgraduate Director delivered a report to Unisma’s Rector on the institutional status and progress of the Multicultural Islamic Education Doctoral Program.
Prof. Mas’ud Said, MM., PhD, in his capacity as Postgraduate Director, reported steady growth in the doctoral program since 2019, reflected in both rising enrollment numbers and an increasing number of graduates earning their doctorates.
Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, a lecturer in the doctoral program and concurrently Unisma’s Rector, recommended improvements to administrative processes, spanning both student services and the enforcement of leadership decisions, across general administration as well as financial management.

Deputy Rector I, Prof. Junaidi Mistar, M.Pd., PhD, reported on institutional partnerships tied to scholarship programs. He noted that certain scholarships, including the 5,000 Doctorates program, require fund returns when allocated money goes unused by student activities.
For instance, funding earmarked for proposal seminars must be returned to the Ministry of Education and Culture or the Ministry of Religious Affairs when recipient students fail to complete their proposal defense in a timely manner.

Prof. Yaqub Cikusin, M.Si, Chairman of the Foundation, likewise pushed for stronger educational quality within the Multicultural Islamic Education Doctoral Program, proposing stricter candidate screening as one key strategy to better assess prospective students’ actual capabilities.
Prof. Dr. Djunaidi Ghony reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to guiding students through to the completion of their doctoral studies, describing himself, half in jest, as the program’s “goalkeeper” a role he takes seriously enough to show up at the office nearly every day unless genuinely unable to.
