Universitas Islam Malang’s Master’s in Mathematics Education program held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to develop its Vision, Mission, Objectives, and Targets (VMTS), conducted under strict health protocols. Held on January 11, 2021, in the Ali bin Abi Tholib Building, 7th floor, the session brought together stakeholders and academic leaders to help shape the program’s future direction.
Prof. Mas’ud Said, MM., PhD, Director of Universitas Islam Malang’s Postgraduate Program, opened the FGD by underscoring the importance of developing a study program oriented toward both societal needs and the demands of today’s era of globalization.

Dr. Surya Sari Faradiba, S.Si., M.Pd., a lecturer in the Master’s in Mathematics Education program, explained that formulating a clear Vision and Mission serves as the primary foundation for developing the program’s full VMTS document.
The core discussion, moderated by Dr. Nur Fajar Arief, M.Pd, brought together a range of stakeholders, including M. Kholil, S.Pd, representing the Malang Regency Junior High School Mathematics Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP), and M. Sholeh Mawardi, Principal of SMPN 1 Ngajum. Their input proved valuable in refining the VMTS process, helping ensure the program’s alignment with practical, on-the-ground educational needs.
Also participating was Prof. Abdur Rahman As’ari from Universitas Negeri Malang, a recognized expert in mathematics education, whose contributions offered thoughtful perspective and innovative solutions for the program’s continued development.
