Universitas Islam Malang, in collaboration with Universiti Malaya through its Academy of Islamic Studies, held an International Seminar on Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh as a follow-up to the cooperation agreement signed by the two institutions. The seminar carried the theme “Teaching Systems of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh in Higher Education.”
At the seminar, UNISMA presented Dr. Dzulfikar Rodafi, Lc., MA, as a keynote speaker, who delivered a presentation on the structure and content of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh courses at UNISMA. Meanwhile, Universiti Malaya was represented by Dr. Imamuddin, Lc., M.Sh., who enriched the discussion by offering academic perspectives from Malaysia.
UNISMA’s Director of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, extended a warm welcome to lecturers and students from Universiti Malaya who attended the seminar in person. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of strengthening academic ties between the two universities.
On the same occasion, Dr. Dzulfikar Rodafi emphasized the need to develop Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh curricula that are responsive to contemporary demands while preserving the scholarly traditions of pesantren education, which remain a distinctive strength of UNISMA. He also explained an integrative learning approach that connects theory, practice, and research within Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh courses.
The international seminar not only reinforced academic cooperation between UNISMA and Universiti Malaya, but also opened new opportunities for future collaboration in research and the development of more innovative curricula.
