Increasing Research Quality: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language Teaching Conducts Workshop on Using NVIVO

Malang – In an effort to enhance the quality and complexity of qualitative research in the academic world, the Master’s Program in Indonesian Language Teaching (MPBI) at Universitas Islam Malang (Unisma) has organized a workshop on the use of NVIVO software. This initiative, led by the Head of the MPBI Program, Dr. Akhmad Tabrani, M.Pd, and supervised by Dr. Ifit Novita Sari, M.Pd, is part of the implementation of the Grant Program for the Development of Study Programs at Universitas Islam Malang.

The workshop was structured as a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aimed at meeting the needs of lecturers to enhance the demands for quality and complexity in qualitative research. Given the evolving research methodologies and the high demands for scientific publications, the use of rigorous and efficient analytical tools like NVIVO is crucial. NVIVO enables lecturers to manage and analyze qualitative data more deeply and systematically, thereby improving the validity of findings and efficiency in the research and teaching processes.

Dr. Akhmad Tabrani, M.Pd stated, “Mastering NVIVO not only aids in qualitative data analysis but also adds value in student supervision and international collaboration. This is vital in preparing lecturers and students to meet the demands of the global job market and research.”

The objectives of the workshop include:
1. Enhancing lecturers’ skills in using the NVIVO data processing application.
2. Improving lecturers’ competencies in research and publication.
3. Supporting qualitative research to manage, organize, and analyze data from various sources efficiently.
4. Enabling lecturers to conduct in-depth analysis through various available analytical tools, such as thematic analysis, content analysis, and narrative analysis.
5. Accelerating the data analysis process so that lecturers can focus on interpreting and writing research results.
6. Ensuring data analysis is conducted consistently and accurately, reducing the possibility of human error.

With this workshop, it is expected that MPBI Unisma lecturers will be better prepared to face the challenges of qualitative research and increase their contributions to the academic world. The use of NVIVO is anticipated to become the new standard in qualitative research within Universitas Islam Malang, supporting the university’s vision and mission to become an excellent and globally competitive educational institution.
