On Saturday, September 17, 2022, Unisma’s Postgraduate Notary Program held a Public Lecture with the theme: “Effective, Efficient, and Enjoyable Studying,” featuring the Director of Postgraduate Program at Universitas Islam Malang, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D. The event was moderated by the Head of the Notary Master’s Program at Unisma, Dr. Sunardi, SH., M.Hum. The event began at 7:00 AM at the 3rd Floor of the East Java Studies Center, Unisma Postgraduate Program, and was attended by approximately fifty Notary Master’s students.
Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D., who earned his Ph.D. abroad, specifically in Australia, shared many of his experiences during his academic journey, particularly while studying in Australia, and discussed what one should do after leaving campus or school.
“The root of education is bitter, but the fruit is very sweet,” said Prof. Mas’ud, quoting Aristotle.
Through this quote, he aimed to emphasize to the students that pursuing higher education requires hard work and dedication. “You don’t need to be the best, because if everyone in a class were the best, that wouldn’t be possible. However, at the very least, your grades should be good, and that is sufficient,” he explained.
He also cited one of Albert Einstein’s famous quotes: “True education begins after you leave campus – Albert Einstein. Because it’s not about what you do on campus or in school, but what you can do when you dive into society later,” he added.
Prof. Mas’ud also explained that there are three keys to success in living life according to his own philosophy. “The first is Honesty, which is the greatest asset of a reputation; the second is Certainty; and the last is Simplicity. They deliver services right to your doorstep or as we say in our language, ‘going the extra mile,’” explained the individual, who is also a former Special Staff Member at the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs.
According to Prof. Mas’ud, there are four tips for academic success:
- Maintain your class schedule
- Complete academic administrative tasks
- Understand the course outline, your passion, and the course material for each professor/lecturer.
- Precision/punctuality.
