Three doctoral candidates in Multicultural Islamic Religious Education from West Kalimantan Tengku Indra Kusuma, Kartono and Abdus Shomad formally defended their dissertations during an open examination session on Saturday (21/02), following fellow candidates from the same cohort who had previously undergone the process.
All three scholars conducted research rooted in the socio-religious context of West Kalimantan. Tengku Indra Kusuma presented his dissertation entitled “The Correlation Between Multicultural Islamic Education and the Formation of a Sakinah Family (A Case Study at the Office of Religious Affairs in Sukadana, North Kayong Regency).”
The open examination was presided over by Rector Prof. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., who served as chair, alongside Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D., as secretary. The board of examiners comprised Prof. Dr. Imam Suprayogo, Prof. Dr. Nur Syam, M.Si., Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si., Prof. Dr. H. Djunaidi Ghony and Dr. Syamsu Madyan, Lc., M.A.

Promovendus Kartono subsequently defended his dissertation titled “Kiai Leadership in Reinforcing Tolerant Attitudes (A Multi-Site Study of Multicultural Islamic Education at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Kubu Raya Regency, and Ulil Albab Islamic Boarding School, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan).”
The composition of the examining board for Kartono’s defense largely mirrored the previous session, with one adjustment: the sixth examiner, Dr. Syamsu Madyan, Lc., M.A., was replaced by Dr. Abdul Jalil, M.Pd.

Kartono later received the official decree confirming the successful completion of his dissertation examination.

In the final session, promovendus Abdus Shomad presented and defended his dissertation entitled “The Spiritual Ethos of Kiai in Advancing the Values of Multicultural Islamic Education at Al-Faqihil Muqaddam Islamic Boarding School, Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan.”
Abdus Shomad was examined by a panel of seven assessors. In this session, Dr. Abdul Jalil was replaced by Dr. Moh. Afifulloh, M.Pd., as a member of the examining board.
All three promovendus successfully defended their dissertations and were declared to have passed with the distinction of “highly satisfactory.”
