Prof. Ali Saukah, M.A., Ph.D., stated that scientific publications are a form of charity toward colleagues and the public. He conveyed this message at Author Workshop on Academic Writing and Publishing 2019 on Saturday, December 7, 2019. The five-hour event was held in Abdurrahman Wahid Hall on the 7th floor.
The opening of Author Workshop on Academic Writing and Publishing 2019 was moderated by Dr. Pardiman, MM. The chair of executive committee, Dr. Muthmainnah Mustofa, M.Pd, expressed her delight over the speakers’ willingness to share their knowledge with Unisma’s postgraduate students. Prof. M. During the workshop led by Prof. Ali Saukah, MA., Ph.D., he emphasized that publishing scientific research is a form of charity through the truth of research findings. When undertaken with the intention of charity, research and scientific publications can become a source of reward for researchers.
He offered tips on how to elevate research findings submitted at the national level into scientific articles accepted by international journals. One method is to omit the research location and compare the findings with similar studies from various parts of the world.
Several questions also arise from the participants, one of which concerns whether an academic advisor is permitted to include their name on a journal article written by a student they are advising. Prof. Ali Saukah answered clearly: if the advisor is actively involved in the thesis or dissertation, they have the right to be listed as a co-author.
This is the lecturer’s right; the Professor at Universitas Negeri Malang admitted that he does not always exercise this right, as lecturers bear responsibility for the work. If the work turns out to be insufficient or violates scientific ethics, the lecturer is also held accountable for it. (AL/PPS)
