Postgraduate Director Highlights Halal Lifestyle at Al-Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya

The Director of UNISMA Postgraduate Program, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of a halal lifestyle in today’s era. He delivered a message during Ramadan Study Session on April 14, 2022, prior to Maghrib.

Halal is an Islamic Sharia concept regarding what is permissible and allowed to do or use. Today, Halal has become a global trend, with countries around the world participating in the Halal industry.

Prof. Mas’ud, who once studied in Adelaide, shared that Australia has changed significantly. There are now more Halal slaughterhouses and Halal butcher shops guaranteeing Halal slaughter practices in “the land of kangaroo.”

This growth also reflects a rapid increase of Muslim population in Australia. Prof. Masud explained that Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the World, including in Australia, America, and Europe.

Halal industry is now a trend, particularly in food and beverage products. Halal is always associated with and goes hand in hand with thoyyib. Thoyyib means clean and fit for consumption. Thus, the Halal Lifestyle continues to be promoted as an obligation for every Muslim

At the end of event, participants asked questions regarding halal product assurance. Currently, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has a program called Juru Sembelih Halal (Juleha) and Halal Product Process Facilitators. “These two programs are part of the implementation of Halal Product Assurance Law,” stated the Chairman of the East Java MUI

In line with that, Universitas Islam Malang has also become a partner of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in conducting training for Halal Product Process Facilitators (PPH). (AL/PPS)
