September 6 – Universitas Islam Malang held an open senate session marking OSHIKA-MABA (New Student Study and Campus Life Orientation) 2021, an annual event held each year during the new student admission period.
This year’s orientation took place in person at Unisma’s Round Building, under strict health protocols. Participants included both incoming freshmen and returning students who had yet to complete OSHIKA-MABA from the previous year.
According to a report from Deputy Rector IV, Dr. Hj. Istirochah Pujiwati, MP, total enrollment for 2021 reached 4,527 students across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Unisma’s undergraduate faculties include Islamic Studies, Law, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Engineering, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Teacher Training and Education, Economics and Business, Public Administration, and Medicine.

Unisma’s Postgraduate Program, meanwhile, offers Master’s in Islamic Religious Education, Master’s in Islamic Family Law, Master’s in Law, Master’s in Indonesian Language Education, Master’s in English Language Education, Master’s in Public Administration, Master’s in Management, Master’s in Animal Husbandry, and Master’s in Notary Law, alongside a Doctoral Program in Multicultural Islamic Education.
Following Deputy Rector IV’s report, Deputy Rector III and Unisma’s Rector symbolically fitted academic jackets onto two new students, a gesture then mirrored by every OSHIKA-MABA participant, both attending in person and joining online.
The event was further enlivened by traditional dance performances and heartfelt musical numbers from participating students, adding warmth and energy to the occasion, one many new students are likely to remember fondly for years to come.
Unisma Rector Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, remarked in his address: “Unisma is genuinely an Islamic campus, founded as an NU institution established by respected Ulama. It stands among the country’s leading universities, and rightly carries the label of a multicultural campus, given its student body spans multiple countries, cultures, and ethnicities.”

He added that a bright future is never reserved for those who sit idle and avoid effort. Instead, it belongs to those willing to study diligently, face the challenges of their era head-on, and cultivate a genuine entrepreneurial spirit.
Through OSHIKA-MABA 2021, organizers hope new students will find lasting motivation to begin their academic journey, adapt smoothly to campus life, and ultimately graduate with honors, going on to serve their communities meaningfully. Amiin ya Rabbal Alamiin.
