Doctoral candidate M. Athoiful Fanan presented research on the values of inclusivity at the Mambaus Sholihin Suci Gresik Islamic boarding school. His dissertation is titled “Inclusive Education as the Foundation for Shaping the Character of Boarding School Students (A Phenomenological Study at the Mamba’us Sholihin Suci Gresik Islamic Boarding School).

According to the doctoral candidate, the inclusive learning models at the Mamba’us Sholihin Suci Gresik Islamic boarding school include: tarbiyah, ta’lim, and ta’dib. Tarbiyah is the culmination of the entire process of knowledge transfer (ta’lim) and the transfer of behavioral habits (ta’dib). This learning model fosters an inclusive attitude and mutual respect within the boarding school.

Promovendus Saihul Atho’ A’laul Huda’s dissertation is titled “A Model for Character Education from a Multicultural Perspective at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang.” The Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School is one of the oldest boarding schools in the region, and many of its alumni are actively involved in various aspects of life.

One of Saihul Atho’s interesting findings is the transformative learning derived from the integration of traditional and modern educational approaches. Traditional learning is conveyed through pesantren traditions and cultural indoctrination, while modern learning focuses on governance and management.

Other examiners included Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D., who also served as the session secretary. Prof. Imam Suprayogo, Prof. Dr. Yacub Cikusin, M.Si., Dr. Hanief, and Dr. H. M. Ilyas Thohari, M.Pd., were performing the umrah at the Kaaba.

Given this UNWAHA lecturer’s mastery of the research material, the Rector of Unisma conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Multicultural Islamic Education with a specialization in character education within a multicultural society.
