A Grand Festival: Postgraduate Graduates’ Farewell Ceremony Accompanied by Gambus Music

Malang, June 14, 2023 – The Postgraduate Program at Universitas Islam Malang (Unisma) held its 70th graduation ceremony at the Atria Hotel. The event, attended by 72 prospective graduates, filled the hall on the hotel’s second floor with a lively atmosphere.

This graduation ceremony was particularly special as it was, for the first time, accompanied by the melodious sounds of gambus music. The Al-Kawakib Singosari gambus group performed, filling the event with their beautiful, soul-stirring music that touched the hearts of the attendees.

Messages from the Leadership

On this occasion, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D., as the director of postgraduate programs, extended his congratulations to the graduates. In his remarks, Prof. Mas’ud quoted verse 11 of Surah Al-Mujadalah from the Quran.

“I extend my congratulations to all the prospective graduates. This advancement in education and knowledge simultaneously elevates our status as human beings. As written in the Quran, ‘Allah will exalt those of you who believe and those who have been granted knowledge by several degrees,’” said the Professor of Political Science.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Unisma, Prof. H. Maskuri, M.Si, urged the alumni to become leaders of change. He reminded them that Unisma graduates are expected to be able to transform and improve the institutions or organizations where they work.

“You are future leaders who are capable of positive transformation. For in truth, every individual is responsible for what they observe, and everyone will be held accountable for their oversight,” stated Prof. H. Maskuri, M.Si, quoting the Prophet’s Hadith: “Kullum ro’in wa kullukum mas’ulun ‘an ro’iyatihi.”

Positive Impressions from Graduates

One of the alumni, M. Athoiful Fanan, a graduate of the Multicultural Islamic Education Ph.D. program, offered a positive response to the keys to success shared by Prof. Mas’ud Said. Athoiful Fanan was impressed by the emphasis on the importance of time management during his academic studies.

The STAINIM lecturer said, “I was deeply inspired by what Prof. Mas’ud Said shared regarding time management. For me, the key to success is the ability to manage time effectively, so that I can complete my studies with outstanding achievements.”

Not only was this a farewell event for the prospective graduates, but the occasion was made even more festive by the presentation of awards, not only for the top graduates but also for faculty members and staff who have made significant contributions to supporting the success of Unisma’s postgraduate program.

A total of 3 leaders and 2 staff members were honored for their dedication and hard work in developing a high-quality Graduate Program. Among them were: Rofida Rimajati, SH., Aliyul Mutadlo, Dr. Rulam Ahmadi, M.Pd., Dr. Ir. Sumartono, M.P., and Dr. Surya Sari Faradiba.
