On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, Master in English Language Teaching (ELT) held a “Workshop and Mentoring on Scientific Article Writing to Accelerate Student Scientific Publications” featuring M. Faruq Ubaidillah, M.Pd., as the speaker. The event took place on the 3rd floor of the East Java Studies Center, Postgraduate Program, Universitas Islam Malang. The event was attended by 26 Master’s students from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Drs. H. Mas’ud Said fully supported the event. He stated, “The English Language Teaching (ELT) Master’s Program is always proactive and innovative in organizing activities, including events like this.”
“We at the Unisma Postgraduate Program will always support events like this, especially when guided by experienced speakers. Insha’Allah, everyone will be able to publish their articles quickly. Amin,” concluded the Director of the Postgraduate Program.
Then, the First Deputy Director, Dr. Nur Fajar Arief, M.Pd, echoed the Director’s sentiments, adding that the Master’s Program in English has consistently strived to provide the best for its students. “The most important thing is for students to graduate quickly and not linger here,” concluded the former Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) for the 2008–2016 period.
In his explanation, Mas Faruq, as he is affectionately known, explained that not all universities provide article-writing guidance like Unisma does, and this is something students should take full advantage of.
“I often serve as a mentor at other universities, and at those other universities, there isn’t necessarily mentoring like there is here, because I’m the one giving the talks, so I know that,” said the individual, who is also pursuing a research-based doctoral degree at UNY.
He explained that the most important factors in accelerating students’ article writing are diligent writing, setting aside time, and also mentoring, just as is being done currently.
