Prof. M. Maskuri, M.Si, Rector of Universitas Islam Malang, declared alumni to be the university’s most valuable asset, speaking at the graduation send-off for Unisma Postgraduate Program’s 67th cohort on May 14, 2022.
Prof. Maskuri explained why alumni serve as the truest indicator of quality education, arguing that accomplished graduates alone stand as sufficient proof of a program’s strength. Alumni, he said, are the real asset and the most valuable asset of all is a graduate who embodies genuine quality.
That value, he continued, lies specifically in alumni capable of driving change within their communities, whether as scholars, professionals, or social activists. “Don’t settle for a degree that brings no change to the community around you,” said the Professor of Islamic Religious Education.
The Rector pledged continued support for alumni who demonstrate strong competence and social capital, noting that he makes a point of visiting graduates personally, both within and beyond Java, as a way of standing behind accomplished alumni making an impact in their communities.
The send-off ceremony, held on the 7th floor of the Ali bin Abi Tholib Building, drew 87 graduates from 10 master’s and doctoral programs. Deputy Director II Dr. Nur Fajar Arief, M.Pd, recognized 12 top graduates, distinguished by academic results well above the program average.

The top graduate from each program included Mirhabun Nadhir (Multicultural Islamic Education Doctoral Program), Masyhuri (Master’s in Management), Moh. Mujib (Master’s in Law), Ilman Alfafan (Master’s in Public Administration), Amirul Mukminin (Master’s in Indonesian Language Education), Sugiati (Master’s in Islamic Religious Education), Yudi Hartoyo (Master’s in Agriculture), and Choirun Ni’matus Sa’diyah and Novi Dyastuti Rusidik (Master’s in Notary Law). The Master’s in Islamic Family Law program recognized three top graduates: Salman Al Farisi, Syaiful Alim, and Pahruroji Suhastra.
