UNISMA Postgraduate Program Encourages East Java Livestock Agency Officials to Pursue Higher Education

Malang, September 26, 2024 – Universitas Islam Malang UNISMA through its Master’s Program in Animal Husbandry, has encouraged officials of the East Java Livestock Agency to pursue higher education. The invitation was delivered during a Coordination and Staff Development Meeting organized by the East Java Provincial Livestock Agency on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ir. Inggit Kentjonowaty, MP, Head of Master’s Program in Animal Husbandry, alongside Dr. Ir. Dewi Masyitoh, SP., M.Pt., a faculty representative from UNISMA’s Faculty of Animal Husbandry. Both used the opportunity to introduce undergraduate and master’s programs in animal husbandry to civil servants (ASN) attending from various regions across East Java.

“East Java is one of Indonesia’s largest livestock hubs, with at least 83 companies operating in the sector. These include 20 dairy processing companies, four meat-processing firms, seven poultry slaughterhouses, nine egg-processing companies, 24 leather-processing industries, 22 feed mills, and 11 slaughterhouses,” Dr. Inggit explained.

However, she also addressed challenges facing the sector, particularly declining production following the 2022 outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD). She noted that the number of highly educated human resources in the livestock sector remains limited.

“The livestock industry must be supported by qualified human resources. One strategic approach to improving productivity and sustainability is providing opportunities for sector personnel to pursue undergraduate and master’s education,” she added.

Dr. Inggit emphasized UNISMA’s readiness to contribute to human resource development in East Java’s livestock sector. “We offer undergraduate and master’s programs in animal husbandry that can serve as strategic partners in strengthening professional competencies within the industry.”
