Malang – Risma Gian Kamila, a postgraduate student in Animal husbandry, carried out her Kandidat Magister Mengabdi (KMM) program by organising a Concentrate Feed Formulation Training attended by members of the Sejahtera Sheep Farmers Group in Donowarih village, Karangploso, Malang, on January 7, 2026. The activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in independently formulating concentrate feed by utilising locally available feed ingredients.
A total of 20 sheep farmers received training delivered by Risma. The materials covered an introduction to sheep nutritional requirements, types of local feed ingredients, as well as appropriate techniques for formulating and mixing concentrate feed according to different livestock production phases.
Irawan, head of the farmers group, said the activity was highly beneficial for the farmers.
“So far, we have relied on commercial feed. With this training, we now better understand how to formulate our own feed, allowing us to reduce feed costs,” he said.
In addition to the delivery of materials, the activity was also complemented by hands-on practice in mixing concentrate feed. Through this practical session, farmers are expected to be able to directly apply the knowledge gained in their respective livestock sheds. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active involvement during discussions and field practice.
Through the training, sheep farmers are expected to improve feed cost efficiency, maintain livestock health, and sustainably increase sheep productivity. The activity also serves as an initial step in strengthening independence and cooperation among members of the farmers group. (RGK/AL/PPS)
