UNISMA Postgraduate Program and Faculty of Agriculture Forge Institutional Partnership with East Java Provincial Livestock Office

The Postgraduate Program and Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) initiated a formal cooperation visit to  East Java Provincial Livestock Office on Wednesday, 11 March 2020.

The visit is rooted in the core responsibilities of higher education institutions under the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi, the three pillars obligating universities to carry out education, research, and community service.

This cooperative initiative was driven jointly by the leadership of Postgraduate Program and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. Beyond serving as a formal initiation of institutional collaboration between UNISMA and the Livestock Office, the visit also represents a follow-up to the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNISMA and East Java Provincial Government.

The partnership holds particular significance in light of East Java’s flagship agricultural program, Jatim Agro. The sixth point of the Bakti Satya commitment proclaimed by Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

A central topic of discussion was human resource (HR) development, which lies at the heart of regional progress. It is hoped that staff at the Livestock Office will be encouraged to pursue and advance their formal education to higher academic levels.

Furthermore, the current employment status of numerous staff at the East Java Livestock Office has yet to fully comply with Law No. 5 of 2014 on the State Civil Apparatus (ASN). Hundreds of employees remain classified as Non-Permanent Staff (PTT) and Daily Casual Workers (UHL). This situation has prompted the Livestock Office to seek ways to motivate and encourage these employees to continue their education.

The meeting also addressed future collaborative programs to be jointly conducted between the Livestock Office, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and the Postgraduate Program. The program concept encompasses activities to be held both on campus and in the field, and is currently in the finalisation stage. The program is also set to feature the participation of a Director General from the Ministry of Agriculture. (NAD/AL/PPS)
