Doctoral Research on Samin Community and the Implementation of Islamic Religious Education at a Christian Vocational School

A week ago, Doctoral research on the Samin community and the implementation of Islamic Religious Education at a Christian vocational school has drawn attention following recent national media coverage of the passing of Samin traditional elder Mbah Lasiyo, who was buried according to Islamic rites. A doctoral student from Blora, M. Nur Afif, has been conducting an in-depth study on the Samin community and its relationship with Multicultural Islamic Education, focusing on the intersection between Islam and Samin cultural traditions.

In addition to M. Nur Afif, another doctoral student from Tuban, Muslikhin, also undertook an open dissertation examination today (02/12), organised by the Doctoral Program in Multicultural Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The examination was held at the East Java Study Center.

The board of examiners was chaired by the Rector, Prof. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., and assisted by Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D., as secretary. The panel examining both candidates comprised Prof. Yakub Cikusin, Prof. Imam Suprayogo, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Pd., Prof. Djunaidi Ghony, M.A., and one rotating examiner. The examiner for M. Nur Afif was Dr. Syamsu Madyan, Lc., M.A., while the final examiner for Muslikhin was Dr. Abdul Jalil, M.Pd.

Nur Afif and Muslikhin were supervised by Prof. Yakub Cikusin, M.Si., as promoter. In addition, M. Nur Afif was co-supervised by Dr. Syamsu Madyan, Lc., M.A., while Muslikhin was also supervised by Prof. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D.

Muslikhin’s research focuses on the implementation of Islamic Religious Education at a Christian Maritime Vocational School in Tuban. The provision of such education is considered necessary due to the significant number of Muslim students enrolled at the institution.

Nur Afif was confirmed as the 141st doctoral graduate, while Muslikhin became the 142nd. Both M. Nur Afif and Muslikhin were declared to have passed with a very satisfactory distinction.
