Exapanding Abroad, Master in ELT Unisma is Flying Higher

Master in English Education at the Postgraduate Program of UNISMA continues to make strategic breakthroughs to enhance the quality of its academic offerings, including the development of international joint research and international community service programs.

This commitment was demonstrated through the delegation of Dr. H. Alfan Zuhairi, M.Pd., and Dr. Muhammad Yunus, M.Pd., to National Pingtung University (NPTU), Taiwan, from Sunday to Friday, 8–13 September 2024. The visit aimed to initiate collaborative programs in research and community engagement, as well as to visit several UNISMA students currently participating in an international student mobility program at NPTU.

When contacted, the Chair of the HPPS Program for the Master in English Education at the UNISMA Postgraduate Program, Dra. Hj. Mutmainnah Mustofa, M.Pd., explained that the faculty delegation was part of the HPPS initiative to elevate UNISMA’s global standing through the Master in English Education and to further improve academic quality within the program.

“Our study program is committed to supporting the UNISMA Rector’s vision of accelerating the university’s progress toward becoming a World Class University. One of the key strategies is strengthening international research and community service. We have therefore sent two lecturers to initiate this program. The expected outputs include international journal publications and external examiners for thesis examinations,” Mutmainnah, commonly known as Ina, explained.

Dr. H. Alfan Zuhairi, M.Pd., Head of the Master’s Program in English Language Education at the UNISMA Postgraduate Program, expressed strong optimism that the initiative would have a significant impact on the program’s development.

“This activity is certainly aimed at optimizing our efforts in developing the study program,” Alfan said.

He added that the program, largely facilitated by UNISMA’s Office of International Affairs (KUI) and NPTU alumni, is expected to contribute positively to the long-term advancement of the Master program in English  Education.

Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, M.Pd., who also serves as UNISMA’s Vice Rector III, expressed his appreciation to the Master Program in English Education for entrusting him with the implementation of this initiative. In addition to academic activities, the delegation also carried out institutional coordination between UNISMA and NPTU, which is scheduled to be formally presented to the President of NPTU.

“There are many major agendas to be conveyed and achieved through this program. One of them is strengthening cooperation between two major universities in Taiwan and Indonesia that has been established for a long time. This initiative will also expand international student mobility from UNISMA to Taiwan, as well as from Taiwan to UNISMA,” Yunus said.

It is known that the activities took place from Monday to Friday, during which the UNISMA delegation was formally received by the President of NPTU, Prof. Dr. Robert Y. S. Chen; Vice President Prof. Dr. Bai-Jiun Shih; Prof. Dr. Kelvin H.-C. Chen, Dean of the Office of International Affairs; Prof. Dr. Ted Y. C. Liu, Faculty Member of the Department of Education; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shin-Huei Lin, Director of the Division of International Cooperation. (*)
