Prof. Dr. Nur Syam examines via video conference

Prof. Dr. Nur Syam was unable to attend in person and was therefore accommodated via Zoom videoconference by the organising committee. He was given the first opportunity to comment, addressing matters of academic writing technique and the need for greater elaboration of the theoretical framework employed.

Examiner 1, Prof. Imam Suprayogo, raised a concern regarding the use of Surah Al-Hujurat, a verse pertaining to physical differences in a study that examines cultural differences. He also underscored that precision in academic writing is an absolute requirement for any researcher. Prof. Mulyadi, meanwhile, questioned why the research locus chosen was not the institution where the researcher himself serves.

Doctoral candidate Suharnianto is defending his dissertation.

Prof. Djunaidi Ghony commented that the dissertation abstract was written at excessive length, and emphasised the importance of language that is correct and in accordance with standard Indonesian orthography (EYD). He also reminded the candidate that the selected research type should be directed more toward case-based ethnography.

Prof. Mas’ud Said noted that the overall writing structure was sound, though minor typographical errors were present. Dr. Abdul Wahid offered comments on several references and citations within the dissertation manuscript.

Prof. Maskuri, M.Si., recommended that the theoretical construction findings be subjected to reconstruction, or developed into a developmental model that is distinct from any existing model.
