2 STAI Lecturers Earn Doctoral Degrees from UNISMA’s Multicultural Islamic Education Program

Open dissertation defense sessions were recently held for Mufiqur Rahman and Moh. Sayyi, they are both lecturers at Al-Khairat Islamic College (Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam/STAI) Pamekasan, and doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Program in Multicultural Islamic Education at the Postgraduate Program of Universitas Islam Malang.

The first open examination session featured Mufiqur Rahman, who presented three key findings from his dissertation titled “The Internalisation of Equality Values in Mu’adalah Islamic Boarding School Education: A Multi-Site Study at Tarbiyatul Mu’allimin Al-Islamiyah (TMI) Al-Amien and Dirasah Al-Mu’allimin Al-Islamiyah (DMI) Al-Hamidy Banyuanyar.”

Three findings were identified in the study. The first revealed the existence of equality values within mu’adalah Islamic boarding school education specifically spiritual values, values of Islamic and Indonesian integrity, and social values grounded in local culture.

The second finding demonstrated that these values and culture are actualised through rational policy, equity pedagogy-based learning, the presence of the Kyai as a role model, and equality competency. The final finding revealed that the model of value internalisation in mu’adalah pesantren adheres to the Theocentric Spiritual Humanism Model and the Egalitarian and Multicultural Social Justice Education Model.

The examination session for doctoral candidate Ach. Mufiqur Rahman ran from 07:45 to 10:00, after which the open examination continued with the second candidate following a short break.

As with the preceding candidate, Promovendus Ach. Sayyi presented three findings in his dissertation titled “Moderate Islamic Education: A Study of the Internalisation of Moderate Islamic Education Values at Pesantren Annuqayah Lubangsa and Pesantren Annuqayah Latee, Guluk-Guluk, Sumenep.”

The first finding revealed that the growth and development of moderate Islamic education values at Pesantren Annuqayah originates from the vision and mission, curriculum, patterns of interaction, and the culture and traditions developed within the Annuqayah Federation Pesantren including practices such as acabis and andhep asor. The second finding showed that the Islamic education process at the Annuqayah Federation Pesantren is internalised through various activities and multidimensional approaches. The final finding revealed the existence of a moderate Islamic education model constructed through social skills.
