Master’s Program in English Language Education of Postgraduate Program, Universitas Islam Malang (MPBIng) held the second day of its thesis defense sessions on Tuesday, 16 June 2020, a continuation of the examinations conducted the previous day, 15 June 2020.
As with the preceding session, the second day’s examinations were attended by seven students via Zoom video teleconference. Sessions ran from 08:00 through to 15:00, with each student allocated approximately 60 minutes.

Disha Mario Putra Gautama opened the day’s proceedings with a presentation titled “The Effectiveness of PhoTransEdit Application in Improving Pronunciation Skill,” followed by Muhammad Subkhan with “Improving Students’ Pronunciation Using Auto Speech Recognition Software to the Tenth Grade Language Major Students at SMAN 1 Lawang.” The third presenter, Agustin Wara Prasetyawati, delivered “The Effectiveness of Role Play Method towards Students’ Motivation in Speaking Skill,” succeeded by Hendra Kuswara with “Students’ Grammatical Errors in Their Indonesian-English Translation of Their Third Semester Students at Universitas Islam Kadiri.” The session was then adjourned for the Dhuhr prayer.
Proceedings resumed with a presentation by Faridatul HS titled “The Effect Using Picture Series Technique on Students’ Writing Narrative Text,” followed by the sixth candidate, Moh. Ahsin, with “The Effect of PBL-Based-Vlog on Student’s Speaking Skill Across Different Personality.” The second day’s sessions were brought to a close by Salamun, who defended a thesis titled “The Effectiveness Think Pair Share (TPS) Method on Reading Narrative Text.”

On the second day, the Head of Master’s Program in English Language Education, Dr. Hj. Mutmainnah Mustofa, M.Pd., once again served as both Chair of the examination panel and Examiner 1, alongside Siti Rohani, M.Pd., Ph.D., Dr. Alfan Zuhairi, M.Pd., and Dr. H. Langgeng Budianto, M.Pd., who rotated between the roles of Examiner 2 and Examiner 3.
Throughout the examination sessions, students received a range of feedback and critique from the panel, covering both the substantive content and the technical aspects of academic writing. It is hoped that this input will serve to significantly strengthen the quality of each student’s thesis. (NAD/AL/PPS)
