A Degree Marks a Beginning, Not an End: UNISMA Postgraduate Program Releases 119 Graduates in 79th Graduation Period

Malang – The Postgraduate Program of Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) officially released 119 prospective Master’s and Doctoral graduates at the 79th Graduation Period in 2026, on Saturday night (28/6/2026). The send-off ceremony, which proceeded with great solemnity and a sense of family, became the final moment of guidance before the graduates officially received their degrees in the graduation procession.

The Director of UNISMA’s Postgraduate Program, Prof. Dr. H. M. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D., in his remarks affirmed that graduation is not the finish line, but rather the starting point of a real journey. He encouraged all graduates to continue sharpening their abilities by mastering three core competencies which he referred to as Skills for the Future, namely critical thinking, good communication, and easy adaptability.

“Education is important, a degree is also important. But what is more important is the spirit of life and the enthusiasm to keep developing oneself,” Prof. Mas’ud stressed before the hundreds of attendees who filled the event hall.

Furthermore, Prof. Mas’ud explained that the figure of a good alumnus is not assessed merely from academic achievement, but also from character, professionalism, social idealism, and religiosity. He reminded the graduates not to sit idly waiting for opportunities to come, while quoting inspiration from the world figure Oprah Winfrey: that only oneself has the power to drive and advance one’s own life. In addition, Prof. Mas’ud also conveyed that UNISMA has now placed itself among the ranks of the world’s top 1,000 universities, an achievement that is a shared pride as well as a responsibility for every one of its alumni.
