National Education Day 2023; Unisma Wears Sarongs at Assembly

Malang, May 2, 2023—Universitas Islam Malang held a National Education Day (Hardiknas) assembly in a unique way: by wearing Unisma’s signature batik sarongs and white koko shirts. The sarong itself is a cultural legacy of learning in Islamic boarding schools that is still in use today.

This morning’s assembly began with the raising of the Red and White Flag, followed by the recitation of the Pancasila text by the Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si., which was joined by the ceremony participants. This was followed by the solemn recitation of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution by one of the Unisma Foundation’s board members.

In his remarks, Rector of Unisma noted that the commemoration of National Education Day coincides with the birth of Ki Hadjar Dewantara in Yogyakarta in 1889. This commemoration aims to honor his contributions to national education and to foster patriotism and nationalism among the Indonesian people.

In line with this year’s National Education Day theme, “Moving Together, Celebrating Independent Learning,” Unisma remains committed to producing highly competitive human resources with an entrepreneurial spirit. Unisma must lead the way in becoming a highly competitive university.

This professor in the field of Islamic Education believes that education must be designed to be adaptive, in line with human development, and step out of the comfort zone in order to progress. Indonesia can certainly use education to advance the nation.

Education needs to be geared toward creating a fair and peaceful society. Education also needs to encourage the use of ICT and foster technological innovation, which has become essential for all elements of the education sector in Indonesia to compete at the highest level.

“I hope the academic community will maintain a peaceful mindset and not dwell on minor issues that could hinder Unisma’s progress. We are all part of Unisma; whether we like it or not, we must love, protect, and build Unisma so that it benefits the world,” he emphasized

The Director of Unisma Postgraduate Program, Prof. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D., commended the initiative of Unisma Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, in organizing today’s morning assembly.
