Strengthening Multicultural Campus; Nun from the Diocese of Palangka Raya

Malang, September 29, 2023 – Universitas Islam Malang (Unisma) continues to strengthen its identity as a multicultural campus, welcoming students from various religious backgrounds every year. This year, Sister Maria Clara, a nun from the Diocese of Palangka Raya, has enrolled as a freshman at the university.

Sister Maria Clara was welcomed as a new student at Unisma during a festive orientation ceremony on September 29, 2023, as part of the Academic and Campus Life Orientation Program for new students, known as “Oshika Maba.” The event also served as a significant moment to celebrate diversity and the spirit of inclusion at Unisma.

The Director of Unisma’s Postgraduate Program, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, Ph.D., expressed great appreciation for Sister Maria Clara’s bold decision to pursue her education at Unisma. In his remarks, Prof. Mas’ud Said stated, “We are very proud to have Sister Maria Clara as part of the Unisma community. Her decision to study here is tangible proof of the spirit of inclusion and multiculturalism that we uphold at Unisma.”

Sister Maria Clara, widely known as a figure active in community development and education in Palangka Raya, stated that her choice to study at Unisma was due to the recognition of the quality education offered by this university as well as the strong spirit of diversity on campus.

“I am convinced that Unisma is the right place for me to continue learning and contributing to the development of Palangka Raya’s community. The spirit of multiculturalism here aligns with the values I hold dear,” Sister Maria Clara said sincerely.

Unisma, as an educational institution that prioritizes the values of inclusion and tolerance, is delighted to be part of Sister Maria Clara’s educational journey. This decision not only reflects the spirit of multiculturalism on campus but also helps strengthen interfaith and intercultural cooperation networks.

Sister Maria Clara’s arrival at Unisma serves as an inspiration for students and other academic staff to continue upholding the spirit of inclusion and diversity within the campus community. The diversity of cultures, religions, and social backgrounds at Unisma is considered one of its greatest assets, which must be continuously preserved and strengthened.

With the growing number of students like Sister Maria Clara, who represent diverse backgrounds, Unisma is increasingly solidifying its status as a multicultural campus committed to providing high-quality education while promoting inclusion and diversity in campus life.
