UNISMA Postgraduate Program Leads Initiative to Strengthen High-Quality Academic Writing

Today (March 14), UNISMA Postgraduate Program held its initial academic meeting for the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year. The meeting aimed to evaluate the previous semester and provide strategic direction for the upcoming semester.

Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM., Ph.D., Director of the UNISMA Postgraduate Program, led the session by outlining several key aspects of institutional development. One of the main strategies discussed was increasing the number of new students. Prof. Mas’ud Said noted, “In the past, the number of postgraduate students at UNISMA was relatively modest. However, through collaboration among all heads of study programs and lecturers, we have successfully increased new student enrollment at both the master’s and doctoral levels.”

The Rector of UNISMA Malang, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si., also delivered remarks during the meeting. He emphasized that while academic activities at the Postgraduate Program have been running well, greater attention must be given to academic writing, particularly collaborative research and publications between lecturers and students. “We expect the learning process to produce high-quality scholarly works, including publications in reputable Scopus-indexed journals and academic books,” he said.

The Rector’s directive was described by the Postgraduate Program Director as “beating the drum for scholarly writing.” Strategic steps have been initiated to encourage graduate students to produce publications in Scopus-indexed journals and scholarly books. This initiative reflects the institution’s broader ambition to cultivate graduates who actively contribute to academic development through impactful research.

These efforts have begun to yield results, as reflected in the growing number of scholarly publications produced by both students and faculty members of the UNISMA Postgraduate Program. With continued institutional support and guidance, the vision of producing academically influential graduates is steadily becoming a reality at UNISMA Postgraduate Program in Malang.
