UNISMA KDM Program Strengthens Multidimensional Religious Moderation in West Kalimantan

Kubu Raya, Pontianak, November 7, 2024 – Six doctoral candidates from Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA), enrolled in the Multicultural Islamic Education program, have launched the “Kandidat Doktor Mengabdi” (KDM) initiative under the theme “Weaving Multidimensional Strength in Religious Moderation and Social Reinforcement within Multicultural Communities.”

The program is being implemented across several districts and cities in West Kalimantan Kubu Raya Regency, Pontianak City, and Singkawang City over the course of one semester. Its primary objective is to strengthen religious moderation and foster social cohesion in multicultural communities through inclusive, diversity-based educational approaches.

The participating doctoral candidates H. Ruslan, Fery Yanto, H. Mus Mulyadi, Suherdiyanto, Muhammad Lahir, and Sri Wahyuni are committed to integrating multicultural values into every activity conducted across the three regions.

One of the participants, Fery Yanto, explained that the program carries the tagline “Doctoral Candidates Serve: Inspiring Moderation, Nurturing Togetherness.” The tagline reflects the initiative’s mission to promote religious moderation while safeguarding social harmony.

The program encompasses a series of activities, including multicultural education outreach in schools, professional development workshops for educators, and the strengthening of religious moderation through partnerships with key institutions. Collaborating partners include the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB), as well as local and national social and educational organizations.

“Through this initiative, we hope to foster closer ties among diverse community groups, enhance mutual understanding, and cultivate an inclusive and harmonious social environment,” Fery Yanto added.

All KDM activities will be comprehensively documented and disseminated through mass media outlets and digital platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook fan pages, and blogs. This strategy aims to broaden public access to the program’s outcomes and encourage wider participation in advancing religious moderation and social resilience.

Through this initiative, UNISMA seeks to reinforce collaboration between academia and society, delivering tangible contributions to social harmony in Kubu Raya, Pontianak, and Singkawang regions widely recognized for their culture of tolerance.
