UNISMA–UIN Mataram Postgraduate Partnership Boosts Research Innovation

Malang – Friday, July 25, 2025, marked a significant milestone in the academic landscape as a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening research innovation was formally established between UNISMA’s Postgraduate program and the Postgraduate program of UIN Mataram. The cordial meeting held in the Office of the Director of UNISMA Postgraduate School, underscored a shared commitment to collaborative research while paving the way for dissemination of impactful studies with the potential to benefit both institutions.

The event opened with an inspiring address by Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, Ph.D., Director of the UNISMA Postgraduate Program. He encouraged lecturers from UNISMA and UIN Mataram to engage in joint research initiatives, emphasizing the importance of academic synergy in producing relevant and socially beneficial scholarly work.

The highlight of the session was a research presentation entitled “A Phenomenological Study on the Development of Religious Values among Children of Muslim Migrant Worker Families on Lombok Island,” delivered by Dr. H. Moh. Fakhri.

Findings of the study are considered highly significant in understanding dynamics of religious value formation among children of migrant workers. The research provides a strong foundation for designing targeted psychosocial support and evidence-based policies, ensuring these children continue to receive adequate religious guidance and develop strong spiritual foundations despite familial limitations.

The presentation was followed by an in-depth discussion on potential areas of collaboration, further enriched by insights from Dr. Rendra Khaldun, M.Ag., Dr. Lalu M. Nurul Wathoni, M.Pd.I., Dr. Abdul Rasyid Ridho, M.A., and Dr. H. Abdul Azis, M.Pd.I., reinforcing shared commitment to inter-institutional research collaboration.

Outcomes of the Cooperation Agreement 

The meeting concluded with signing the cooperation agreement resulting in four key points:

  1. Collaborative Writing Initiatives: Joint book authorship, research projects, and journal articles between UNISMA and UIN Mataram postgraduate schools will be coordinated on a personal and institutional basis.

  2. Joint Journal Development: Both institutions will collaborate in journal publication, with each party contributing manuscripts for mutual academic development.

  3. Accredited Journal Requirement: Master’s and doctoral graduates from both universities are required to publish articles in accredited journals in accordance with academic regulations and are encouraged to submit work to journals managed by each institution.

  4. Appointment of Persons in Charge (PIC): To ensure effective coordination and implementation of the partnership, each institution will appoint a designated Person in Charge (PIC).

This collaboration is expected to demonstrate tangible outcomes within the next month, with concrete progress targeted no later than August 25, 2025. Synergy between UNISMA and UIN Mataram stands as clear evidence of higher education institutions’ commitment to advancing research and contributing positively to society particularly in addressing sensitive social issues such as sustainability of religious values among children of migrant workers.
