Doctoral Program in Multicultural Islamic Education (PAI) held an open examination for doctoral candidates Sita Acetylena and Siti Aminah. The examination took place on 8 September 2025 at the Ali bin Abi Tholib Building, East Java Studies Center Hall.
One of the candidates presented a dissertation entitled “Enculturation of Religious Moderation through Multicultural Islamic Education at the Chiba Islamic Cultural Center (CICC), Japan.” The research was motivated by the fact that Chiba Prefecture is a major destination for international students and foreign workers.
The research focused on the Chiba Islamic Cultural Center (CICC), which has facilitated the conversion of 30 new Muslims. Interviews were conducted with Ustadz Sugimoto, Purwati, Ahmad Ghozali, and representatives of PCINU Japan. Further insights were also gathered from non-Muslims involved in CICC activities.
The open examination of Sita Acetylena was chaired by Unisma Rector Prof. Junaidi Mistar, M.Pd., Ph.D, with Prof. M. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D serving as secretary and co-promoter. Other examiners included Prof. Dr. Imam Suprayogo, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si. (also acting as promoter), Prof. Nur Syam, M.Si., Prof. Djunaidi Ghony, M.A., and Dr. Abdul Jalil, M.Pd.

Doctoral candidate Siti Aminah presented her dissertation in a separate session with the same panel of examiners, except for the final examiner, who was replaced by Dr. Moh. Afifulloh, M.Pd. She was supervised by Prof. Maskuri, M.Si. as promoter and Prof. H. Djunaidi Ghony, M.A. as co-promoter.

Siti Aminah presented her dissertation entitled “Character Education in Fostering Love for the Homeland Based on Multicultural Islamic Values at UNISKA Kediri.” One distinctive feature of UNISKA is that although it uses an Islamic identity, it does not offer Islamic studies programmes. The university embraces students from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds.
She further explained that the implementation of patriotic character education at UNISKA has been formally incorporated into the institution’s vision and mission statements, and was confirmed through in-depth interviews.
Sita Acetylena, S.Pd., M.Pd. graduated with honours, while Siti Aminah, S.Ag., M.Pd.I. graduated with a very satisfactory distinction. Both candidates are officially entitled to use the doctoral title following the issuance of the Graduation Decree (SK Yudisium). Congratulations!
