Postgraduate Visit to East Java Ministry of Communication and Digital

Thursday, February 6, 2020, UNISMA Postgraduate Team visited East Java Ministry of Communication and Digital Office in Surabaya. The delegation was received by the Head of Ministry of Communication and Digital, Dr. Benny Sampirwanto, and Heads of Divisions.

The purpose of this visit was to discuss joint programs under the MOU signed between UNISMA and East Java Ministry of Communication and Digital.

The UNISMA Postgraduate Team was welcomed by experts in big data. This was specifically arranged to address the team’s interests regarding collaboration on the implementation of Higher Education’s Tri Dharma.

In his remarks, Prof. Mas’ud Said expressed what aligns with statements made by East Java’s Governor: “We want to contribute research findings from all study programs at UNISMA. “We want to strengthen East Java’s unique culture, which sets it apart from other provinces. This will help realize the ‘big data’ vision envisioned by Governor of East Java.”

Director of UNISMA Postgraduate Program, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, MM, Ph.D., personally led the visit accompanied by Deputy Directors 1 and 2, the Heads of Study Programs, and UNISMA Postgraduate Program staff. Deputy Director 2, Dr. Nur Fajar Arief, presented a program to provide data on education and culture. Mr. Benny, as Head of the Agency, welcomed the program. “This is exactly what we need so that data enrichment can continue,” stated the ex-Bakorwil Malang official.

After both leaders presented their respective plans and work progress, Mr. Benny invited the delegation to visit the Command Center, which showcases the advanced data systems supporting East Java’s vision of becoming a “Smart Province.” The big data housed in Command Centers covers a wide range of areas, including demographics, the economy, and social welfare. However, it must be acknowledged that the data is still being continuously updated and expanded so that it can be developed for big data analytics.

UNISMA’s postgraduate program aims to ease UNISMA faculty and graduate students to access the data needed for scientific research or writing scientific papers, including thesis and dissertations. On the other hand, UNISMA’s postgraduate program can contribute research findings or data to East Java’s Ministry of Communication and Digital. (RA/AL/PPS)
