Two new doctors have graduated from the Doctoral Program in Multicultural Islamic Education(PAI), adding to the body of research on multicultural themes. The new doctoral graduates are Abd. Halim, S.Ag., M.Si., and Ir. Nurul Laily, M.Pd.I. The open examinations were held in East Java Study Room on Thursday (05/07). Each examination lasted 2 hours, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIB.
Abd. Halim defended his dissertation titled “The Role of Village Clerics in Building a Harmonious Life Based on Multicultural Islamic Religious Education (An Ethnographic Study in Pancasila Gaprang Village, Kanigoro Subdistrict, Blitar Regency).”
The doctoral candidate, Abdul Halim, views this village as an interesting one. There are even three places of worship, namely a mosque, a church, and a Hindu temple, built on a single street/alley. The street is named Masgapur.
Abdul Halim was supervised by Prof. Mas’ud Said as the supervisor and Prof. Dr. Djunaidi Ghony as the co-supervisor.
The professors provided feedback and suggestions regarding the dissertation presented by the candidate. Suggestions included: adding additional references, exploring previously unexplored research findings, and refining the concepts.

Nurul Laily received her graduation certificate as the 153rd doctoral graduate
Doctoral candidate Nurul Laily defended her dissertation on multicultural Islamic education through the art of Bantengan. Her thesis was titled “The Relationship Between the Art of Bantengan and the Values of Multicultural Islamic Education (An Ethnographic Study in Toyomarto Village, Singosari, Malang)”
Bantengan is a form of art that has developed in East Java, particularly in Malang Raya and Mojokerto. This art form involves dimensions ranging from the empirical to the meta-empirical, which cannot be observed.
During her doctoral studies, Nurul Laily felt saddened by the passing of the professors who had guided her in her studies. She was advised by the late Prof. Yakub Cikusin and Prof. Masud Said as her co-advisor.
The examination committee for this defense was chaired by the Rector, Prof. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., assisted by the Director of Postgraduate Program, Prof. H. M. Mas’ud Said, M.M., Ph.D. Examiners included: Prof. Nur Syam, M.Si., Prof. Imam Suprayogo, Prof. Dr. Maskuri, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Djunaidi Ghony, and Dr. Moh. Afifulloh, M.Pd.
Abdul Halim and Nurul Laily were awarded their doctoral degrees as the 152nd and 153rd graduates. Both graduated with the distinction of “highly satisfactory.” Congratulations!
